Keep your actual contact details current when registering with DomainQ; personal-data visibility is limited in public WHOIS and RDAP lookups. Technical fields can remain visible.
Privacy protection concerns publicly accessible registration data. Keep the actual contact details in your DomainQ account current to manage your domain and receive important notices. This diagram is explanatory; it is not a lookup result for a specific domain.

Included with your domain, at no extra charge

Privacy protection is included with your DomainQ service on supported extensions. There is no separate privacy fee at registration, and no additional privacy charge when you renew your domain. The extension’s registration rules determine which personal fields are hidden.

Manage your privacy protection at DomainQ

  1. Open your domain in your account

Register a new domain with DomainQ or open your existing domain in the customer panel. Keep the holder and contact details current in the same account.

  2. Check your privacy status

Review your domain’s privacy status. Our DomainQ team can explain which details your extension protects and help you with your privacy preferences.

  3. Keep privacy free at renewal

Protection remains free at renewal on supported extensions. Keep your account email current so registration-verification and renewal notices can reach you.

ICANN RDAP lookup

Privacy coverage by extension

Generic extensions such as .com and .net

Free DomainQ privacy protection is available on supported generic extensions. ICANN registration-data rules also govern the removal of personal data from public lookup; automatic redaction and an additional privacy service are distinct.

.us: a registry restriction

.US policy does not allow proxy or privatized anonymous registration services, so we cannot provide this type of privacy protection for .us domains. You can still manage DNS, renewal and your domain in your DomainQ account.

.ai: a supported country-code extension

We support additional WHOIS privacy protection for .ai domains. At DomainQ, this service is free throughout registration and renewal. .AI registration rules also permit privacy/proxy services; follow your domain’s privacy status in your account.

Extensions without the additional service

In our catalogue, additional WHOIS privacy is unavailable on .com.tr, .net.tr, .org.tr, .dev, .us, .eu, .nl, .es, .it, .ca, .com.au, .ch, .at, .be and .jp. Public data follows the relevant registry’s rules. The absence of this additional service does not mean all personal details are publicly visible.

.de: registry-level data protection

For .de registrations, DENIC’s rules limit the public visibility of personal data. Distinguish default registration-data protection from an additional WHOIS privacy service; a field missing from a lookup does not by itself show that an additional service is active.

Understand your protection

Keep your real details current in your account

Privacy does not change the information required for registration. Use accurate identity and contact details in your DomainQ account, and update them in your panel when they change.

Lawful disclosure requests can be assessed

Nonpublic information can be assessed under applicable law and disclosure procedures. Privacy protection does not remove those obligations, and receiving a request does not automatically make your information public.

Information on your website is separate

Contact pages, social profiles and previously collected copies are not erased by this service. Privacy does not guarantee complete prevention of spam, phishing or account compromise.

Which details are protected, and which remain visible?

Your protection concerns the public visibility of personal registration details. The comparison below shows how the information used to manage your domain at DomainQ differs from a public lookup. Since 28 January 2025, RDAP has been the definitive lookup protocol for generic top-level domain (gTLD) registration data; WHOIS remains in use in some systems.

Registrant and contact persons

Public lookup
On supported extensions, an active additional privacy service replaces public owner, administrative and technical contact details with proxy-service contact information. Some fields are also redacted under registration-data policy.
Your domain management at DomainQ
Keep the identity and contact details required for registration accurate in your DomainQ account. Update them in your panel when they change.

Technical registration data

Public lookup
Domain status, nameservers, the registration provider and some dates can remain visible.
Your domain management at DomainQ
Continue managing DNS settings and renewals in your account. Privacy protection is separate from these operations.

Contact channel

Public lookup
A contact form, relay address or service provider’s details can appear instead of the actual email.
Your domain management at DomainQ
Keep the actual email address in your account current. Our team can help with your domain’s contact channel and notifications.

Redaction means removing a field from the public response. RDAP and WHOIS are lookup methods, not additional services you need to buy. Your DomainQ privacy protection is free on supported extensions.

How domain privacy protection works

DomainQ’s free additional WHOIS privacy service replaces public contact details with proxy-service contact information on supported extensions. Automatic registration-data redaction is a separate method. The distinctions below help you understand the protection applied to your domain.

  1. Redaction: limiting published data

Some registration fields are withheld from public lookup. This can follow applicable data-protection rules and registry policies; it does not itself introduce a new holder or proxy service.

  2. Privacy: substituting contact details

Under ICANN’s definition, the customer remains the registered holder while alternative reliable contact information is published. The visible fields depend on the service and applicable redaction policy.

  3. Proxy: the service can be the registered holder

In a proxy arrangement, the service is the registered holder and licenses use of the domain to the customer. Check the agreement for use rights, transfer, cancellation and data-disclosure conditions.

Extension rules determine which methods are available. Our DomainQ team can explain the protection applied to your domain and the visibility of its registration details.

Questions about DomainQ privacy protection

Your free service, domain management and personal details.

Is domain privacy free at DomainQ?

Yes. Privacy protection is free throughout registration and renewal on supported extensions. Domain registration and renewal fees remain separate; there is no additional privacy fee. The additional WHOIS privacy service does not apply to unsupported extensions such as .com.tr, .dev and .us; their registries’ own data-protection rules apply.

What is WHOIS privacy?

WHOIS privacy is a common term for protecting registration details in public domain lookups. At DomainQ, protection is free throughout registration and renewal on supported extensions. Automatic redaction, privacy and proxy are different methods; extension rules determine the visibility of personal fields.

What is the difference between RDAP and WHOIS?

Both are registration-data lookup methods. RDAP has been the definitive gTLD protocol since 28 January 2025 and provides structured data. WHOIS remains available in some systems.

Do I need an extra service if my data is already hidden?

Your details being absent from a lookup does not by itself establish that an additional privacy/proxy service is active. At DomainQ, you do not pay extra for privacy protection on supported extensions. Our team can help you review your domain’s privacy status, contact channel and visible information together.

Does enabling privacy change the domain holder?

With privacy, the customer remains the registered holder. With proxy, the service can be the holder and grant use rights by contract. Check the model before proceeding.

Does DomainQ retain my actual registration details?

You need to provide accurate identity and contact details required for your domain registration and keep them current with us. Privacy protection concerns public visibility; it does not remove the need to retain information for registration and management.

Which extensions cannot use additional WHOIS privacy?

In our catalogue, we do not offer this additional service for .com.tr, .net.tr, .org.tr, .dev, .us, .eu, .nl, .es, .it, .ca, .com.au, .ch, .at, .be and .jp. .US policy also prohibits proxy or privatized anonymous registrations. For other extensions, the absence of the additional service does not mean every personal field is public; the registry’s data-protection rules apply.

Does privacy hide every field?

No. Technical information such as the domain, nameservers, status and provider can remain visible. Personal-field publication depends on the applicable policy and service.

Can information be disclosed after a lawful request?

Nonpublic registration data can be assessed under applicable law and the provider’s disclosure procedure. Privacy does not provide absolute anonymity against all requests.

Does privacy stop spam and fake invoices?

Reducing the public visibility of personal contact details can limit data harvesting, but it does not prevent every spam message or scam. Verify renewal and payment transactions for your domain directly in your DomainQ account.

Will my website and email be affected?

Privacy protection concerns the visibility of registration details; it does not change DNS records or mailboxes. Manage your website and email connections separately through the DNS settings in your DomainQ account.

What happens to privacy during a transfer?

When transferring your domain to DomainQ, review the extension’s privacy support and your registration contact details together. DomainQ privacy protection is free on supported extensions. Our team can help you check its status and the current public lookup result once the transfer is complete.
