Domain transfer, DNS changes and website migration explained

Use a transfer to bring registration and renewal management to DomainQ. If you only need to connect your website to a new server, a DNS change may be enough. Compare the options here and ask our team if you are unsure which action you need.

Domain transfer

Once the transfer completes, manage registration and renewals in your DomainQ panel. The registrant stays the same; changing ownership is a separate process. Plan website-file and mailbox migration separately.

DNS changes

DNS records connect your domain to web and email services. You can update them without changing registrars. Changing nameservers and editing a single DNS record are also different actions.

Hosting and email migration

Website files, databases or mailboxes move to new infrastructure. This may require backups, configuration and DNS changes. Plan these services separately from your domain transfer.

A PLANNED TRANSITION

How to transfer a domain to DomainQ

Start your transfer on this page and continue in the DomainQ customer panel. First check access to your current account and the expiry date; ask our team about anything unclear during preparation. Starting before the final day leaves time for approvals and corrections.

  1. Review eligibility and existing services

Check registration and transfer dates, restrictions and extension requirements. Identify who provides your DNS and email services.

Ask our team about the preparation steps for your extension: ICANN rules apply to generic extensions, TRABİS to .tr, Nominet to .co.uk and DENIC to .de.

  2. Prepare the required authorisation

If required for your extension, unlock the domain with your current provider and obtain the EPP/AuthInfo code. For other processes, such as the current .co.uk IPS TAG method, ask our team for the details needed to move to DomainQ.

Keep transfer codes confidential. Enter yours only in the provider’s secure transaction area.

  3. Submit the transfer request

Enter your domain to continue in the DomainQ customer panel. Complete the required details and review the transfer rate, any term extension and order total before confirming.

Holder details must be accurate. Avoid unnecessary ownership changes during the transfer.

  4. Follow approvals and verify completion

Complete the required verification and approvals and track your request in the customer panel. Once the transfer is complete, manage your domain at DomainQ and check its expiry date, DNS settings, website and email services.

Timing depends on the extension, domain status and approvals. A submitted request is not a completed transfer.

THE PROCESS DEPENDS ON THE EXTENSION

Find the transfer method for your domain

The method for moving to DomainQ depends on your extension. Compare transfer codes, waiting periods and added-term conditions below, then ask our team about preparations for your domain.

Method and preparation

EPP / Auth-Code

Get the code from the current provider and check locks and eligibility under ICANN policy.

What to check

Registration, a previous transfer or a holder change can create restrictions. Check extra-year and expiry-date exceptions.

Method and preparation

TRABİS conditions

Start the move to DomainQ under the TRABİS provider-change process and check the required authorization with our team.

What to check

Frozen domains cannot be transferred. Treat transfer, ownership change and paid renewal as separate matters.

Method and preparation

Current process: IPS TAG

Ask our team for the correct IPS TAG to use when moving to DomainQ. This process differs from the generic EPP-code flow.

What to check

Nominet announced a TAC-based transition for 9 February 2027. Confirm the schedule, method and effect on the term when transferring.

Method and preparation

DENIC provider change

Confirm DENIC-specific steps and the required authorisation with both providers.

What to check

Do not directly apply the generic ICANN 60-day rule. Check contact, DNS and registrant conditions together.

Method and preparation

Extension-specific eligibility

Check the transfer method and domain status while maintaining continuing Nexus eligibility.

What to check

True registrant data is required; the anonymous/proxy registration prohibition does not end with a transfer.

PREPARE FOR YOUR TRANSFER

Check six essentials before you begin

Tick each item after checking it. If an item is not required for your extension, confirm that before marking it complete.

This personal checklist does not query domain status or verify transfer eligibility.

Domain transfer fees and renewal prices

See the cost of transferring to DomainQ alongside the renewal rate that follows. The table shows our standard extension rates; term extensions, premium classification and registry rules may affect the total for your domain.

ExtensionTransfer feeAnnual renewal
.com ₺349.99 ₺399.99
.com.tr Free ₺125.00
.net ₺399.99 ₺449.99
.net.tr Free ₺125.00
.org.tr Free ₺125.00
.org ₺349.99 ₺399.99
.io ₺1,899.99 ₺1,999.99
.co ₺899.99 ₺999.99
.xyz ₺449.99 ₺499.99

Term extensions depend on the TLD

Many generic extensions, including .com, .net and .org, include a one-year extension with a successful transfer. Maximum registration terms and post-expiry auto-renewal periods can create exceptions.

.tr transfers and renewals are separate

There is no charge to transfer the listed .tr extensions to DomainQ. Renewal is a separate action with its own rate; a free transfer does not automatically extend the registration term. Track the expiry date in your panel.

Review premium and special conditions

Premium names and some extensions may differ from standard rates. Ask the DomainQ team before transferring a recently renewed or expired domain, and check the renewal action and registration term with your current provider too.

PROTECT THE SERVICES BEHIND YOUR ADDRESS

Plan for website and email continuity

Review your existing services when moving your domain to DomainQ so you can keep your website and email working. A transfer changes registration management; you decide whether DNS, hosting and email should move too. Speak to our team about the preparations needed on the DomainQ side.

A domain’s nameservers publish DNS records. A and AAAA records point to the website, while MX records point to email; changing registrars does not automatically copy these records.
Check DNS records, website files and mailboxes separately. The diagram shows the main connections; records such as CNAME and TXT also belong in your transition plan.

DNS and nameservers

Confirm that existing nameservers will remain available. If DNS tied to your old provider could end, prepare records with a new DNS service in advance.

  • Back up A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT records.
  • Allow for TTL and caching when changing DNS.
  • Test the main domain and the subdomains you use.

Business email

A transfer does not copy mailboxes or old messages. Preserve records if your email provider is staying the same; otherwise, plan email migration separately.

  • Check MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.
  • Test sending and receiving with different addresses.
  • Use an accessible contact address for transfer notices.

DNSSEC and security

Coordinate DNS provider changes with DS records in the parent zone. Mismatched DS records and DNSSEC keys can prevent your domain from resolving correctly.

  • Check DNSSEC status with your current DNS service and the DomainQ team.
  • Coordinate DS changes with your DNS transition plan.
  • Review account security and the lock after completion.
UNDERSTAND WHAT NEEDS ATTENTION

Situations you may encounter during a transfer

Use the explanations below to identify the next step when a status code appears in your transfer notification. Send your domain and request details to DomainQ support for help following up. These examples apply to generic extensions; country-code processes may differ.

clientTransferProhibited

A transfer lock may be enabled

The registrar is generally preventing a transfer. Security locks and policy restrictions may have different removal requirements.

Ask your current provider for the cause and removal conditions.

EPP / AuthInfo

The code may be invalid or missing

A code for another domain, an old code or extra spaces can prevent validation.

Obtain the code again and enter it correctly in the secure transaction area.

pendingTransfer

The request may be in progress

Your transfer may still be in progress; this status does not mean it has failed. Check the request details in your DomainQ panel and any approval notifications.

Follow the approval steps; if the expected time has passed, contact DomainQ support with your request details.

redemptionPeriod / pendingDelete

The domain's lifecycle may affect the transfer

Post-deletion redemption or pending deletion can prevent normal transfers for some generic extensions. Expiry alone does not indicate either status.

Clarify recovery or renewal options with your current provider first.

COMPLETE THE FINAL CHECK

Manage your domain at DomainQ after the transfer

Manage your domain in the DomainQ panel after the completion notification. Use free Premium Anycast DNS, domain forwarding and transfer locks on supported extensions. Where privacy service is available, there is no extra privacy fee at renewal either. Keep independent services in your old account active if you still use them.

  1. Registration and expiry

Open the domain in your DomainQ panel and check the registrant details, expiry date and any term added by the transfer.

  2. Website and email

Test the main address, subdomains, HTTPS access and email sending and receiving. Review DNSSEC validation where applicable.

  3. Renewal planning

Review renewal preferences and payment details in your DomainQ panel. Track the expiry date and make sure transaction notifications reach an email address you use.

  4. Account and transfer security

Use a strong, unique password and enable two-step verification where available. Check the applicable transfer lock again.

Eligibility and preparation

What is a domain transfer? Does the domain holder change?

Transferring your domain to DomainQ moves registration management from your current provider to us, so you can handle renewals and domain management in our customer panel. A normal transfer does not change the registrant. Ownership changes are separate and may create a transfer restriction for some generic extensions.

Can I transfer a newly registered domain immediately?

For generic extensions covered by ICANN policy, transfers may be denied within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer. A change of registrant can also trigger a 60-day lock. If your registrar offers an opt-out from that particular lock, select it before making the change. These rules do not apply universally to extensions such as .tr.

What is an EPP or AuthInfo code, and where do I get it?

This confidential code authorises a transfer for supported extensions. Obtain it from your current provider’s panel or support team. Your current provider supplies the code requested for a move to DomainQ. Do not publish it or enter it in untrusted forms.

Is a transfer lock the same as a 60-day restriction?

No. A user-managed transfer lock generally protects against unauthorised transfers. Policy restrictions following registration, transfer or a holder change are separate. Removing a panel lock does not clear every restriction. Ask your current provider for the specific reason.

What should I prepare before starting a transfer?

Prepare the exact domain name, expiry date, current account access and transfer code where required. Check access to the holder’s communication channels. Save DNS records and nameservers, then confirm whether hosting, email and DNS services will continue after transfer.

Timing, fees and extensions

How long does a domain transfer take?

Timing depends on the extension, verification and registrar response. ICANN policy includes a five-calendar-day response mechanism after a formal request reaches the registry. This does not guarantee completion five days after ordering. Do not assume the same timeline applies to .tr.

Are transfer and renewal fees the same?

No. Transfer moves registration management; renewal extends registration. Many generic extensions include an extra year with transfer, but this is not universal. Review transfer charges and subsequent renewal prices separately.

Do I lose my remaining registration time? Is a year added?

Many generic extensions preserve remaining time and add a year after successful transfer. Maximum registration terms or post-expiry auto-renewal periods can create exceptions. Do not expect an extra year for every extension, including .tr. Verify expiry dates before and after.

Is transferring a .com.tr domain free?

Yes. You can transfer the listed .com.tr, .net.tr and .org.tr domains to DomainQ free of charge. Renewal is separate and uses its own rate; a free transfer does not automatically extend the term. TRABİS rules apply, and frozen domains cannot be transferred. Ask our team about preparations for your domain.

Can an expired domain be transferred?

Expiry does not always prevent transfer. Current status, outstanding amounts, extension rules and deletion processes may affect the outcome. Domains in redemption or pending deletion may need another action first. Clarify options with your current provider rather than assuming transfer resolves expiry.

Does .co.uk use an IPS TAG instead of an EPP code?

The current .uk system uses an IPS TAG to change providers. Contact our team for the target tag and steps needed to move to DomainQ. Nominet has announced a move to its new TAC-based infrastructure for 9 February 2027; that future method should not be used as the current transfer process.

Must I also wait 60 days for country-code domains?

Do not assume generic-domain rules in ICANN’s transfer policy automatically apply to .tr, .co.uk or .de. Assess each country registry’s method, restrictions and timing separately.

Website, email and security

Will my website go offline during a domain transfer?

Transfer alone does not move website files or close hosting. Continuity depends on DNS, hosting and related services remaining active. If registrar-provided DNS ends with the transfer, prepare an alternative first and confirm the transition plan with your service providers.

Will my email addresses and old messages be transferred?

No. Domain transfer does not copy mailboxes or messages. Keep MX and authentication records if the existing email service continues. If changing email providers too, separately plan account setup, message migration and sending and receiving tests.

Do I need to change DNS or nameservers to transfer a domain?

You do not need to change nameservers for every transfer if your current DNS service continues. DomainQ offers free Premium Anycast DNS. If you choose to use it, prepare website and email records first; a transfer does not copy them automatically. Check the old DNS service’s continuity terms and cache timings. Ask our team about the setup steps at DomainQ.

Can I transfer a domain while DNSSEC is enabled?

DNSSEC does not itself prevent every transfer. Coordinate the registrar, DNS service and DS records, particularly if changing DNS providers. Mismatched DS records and keys can cause access problems. Plan changes with both providers instead of switching DNSSEC on or off without preparation.

Will a domain transfer affect my Google rankings?

Transfer does not require domain names or page URLs to change. Accessibility, redirects and technical site health remain important. If DNS or hosting changes too, check for outages and incorrect redirects. Changing registrars does not itself improve rankings.

Tracking and special circumstances

My transfer was rejected. What should I do?

Send your domain and request details to DomainQ support so we can help identify the next step from the rejection notice. A transfer lock, invalid code, policy restriction, dispute or current domain status may block the process. Complete any required correction with your current provider before proceeding. Do not share your transfer code in public channels.

Can I cancel a pending domain transfer?

Contact our support team promptly if your request to DomainQ is still pending. Cancellation depends on the stage and extension rules. Cancelling a completed transfer and transferring again to another provider are different processes; a new transfer may be subject to a waiting period or restriction.

Can I move several domains at the same time?

Work with the DomainQ team on a shared plan for several domains. Each domain’s eligibility, transfer code, expiry date and DNS dependencies need their own review. Tell us about your portfolio and critical services so we can plan appropriate stages for the move.

I also want to change the domain holder. Can I combine the changes?

These are separate processes. Some ICANN-covered holder changes trigger a 60-day transfer lock. Any available opt-out must be selected before that change. Agree the sequence with both providers; check .tr ownership-change and transfer rules separately.

How can I tell when my transfer is complete?

After the completion notification, check that you can manage the domain in your DomainQ panel. Review the expiry date, nameservers and registrant details, then test your website and email. You can also review free Premium Anycast DNS, forwarding and supported transfer-lock settings. Privacy is free during registration and renewal where available; it does not apply to extensions such as .us that prohibit privacy services. Ask our team about coverage for your domain.
