Before registering at DomainQ
Correct holder and address
Use the full individual or legal-entity name. DENIC requires a street address, email and phone number; a PO box alone is insufficient.
Holder outside Germany
Residence in Germany is not a general registration requirement. If DENIC requests it, a holder abroad must name an authorised service recipient in Germany within two weeks.
DNS and technical connectivity
Registration through a DENIC member includes a contract condition to establish the required technical connectivity and data within four weeks. Complete DNS setup with your provider.
Renewal and provider charges
Registry contract terms and a provider’s billing period are separate matters. Check registration and renewal rates, notices and provider-change fees separately.

Technical terms and transaction details
How do residence and a service recipient differ?
The holder does not have to live in Germany. The service recipient is named after DENIC’s request to receive official or court documents in Germany.
Why can IDN length differ from what I see?
Local characters can expand in ACE/Punycode form. DENIC applies the 63-character limit to that technical representation; counting visible letters is not sufficient.

When must I name a representative in Germany?
If you are domiciled abroad, within two weeks of DENIC’s corresponding request. The contract defines this person as authorised to receive official or court documents.
Can .de use Turkish characters or umlauts?
DENIC lists specific Latin characters and supports IDNs. Check the complete name against that list, its ACE length and provider support.
Must a .de website be in German?
A country-code domain does not automatically determine content language. For a Germany-focused service, prepare content matching customers’ language and local needs.
Can I transfer my existing .de domain to DomainQ?
You can transfer an existing .de to DomainQ, subject to DENIC-specific steps and your domain’s status. Confirm authorisation and transition steps with our team. Plan hosting and email migration separately from the domain transfer.
Does .de registration create German trademark rights?
No. Domain and trademark registration are separate. Research existing trademark and naming rights for the name you intend to use in Germany.
Does .de improve SEO?
