What is .com.tr?

.com.tr belongs to Türkiye’s .tr country-code domain structure. In brand.com.tr, brand is the third-level name you choose. Companies and individuals can apply for eligible names without a supporting certificate.

In yourbrand.com.tr, yourbrand is your chosen name, com is the second level and tr is the country code. This compound extension is a separate registration from a name directly beneath .tr. The address is illustrative.

.tr management: BTK and TRABİS

BTK manages Türkiye’s .tr domain; TRABİS is the central registration system. Allocation of .com.tr names without supporting certificates began on 14 September 2022. Applications follow this system’s allocation rules.

When to use .com.tr

Companies operating in Türkiye

A .com.tr can be used for a company website, proposals and business communication aimed at customers in Türkiye. If your legal company name and brand differ, search for the name customers know and check existing trademark rights before choosing it.

Local commerce and services

A store selling to Türkiye or a service business covering particular regions can use .com.tr. Before adding a city or product name, consider whether your delivery area or range of services is likely to change.

An international brand’s Türkiye site

A separate .com.tr can provide Türkiye-specific products, prices and service information alongside a main .com site. You can redirect it to the existing site if you do not plan local content. For a separate site, plan language options, content updates and maintenance as well.

Differences between .com.tr, .com and .tr

These three addresses are registered separately. Your choice depends on the site’s audience and which name is available.

.com.tr: Registration beneath .tr

example.com.tr belongs to Türkiye’s domain structure and can be used for a site aimed at Türkiye. The extension does not verify a business’s reliability or official status; a general application does not require a company or trademark certificate.

.com: A generic top-level domain

example.com is not tied to a particular country. It can be used for a site serving several markets under the same brand. A .com.tr address can accompany it for Türkiye-specific content; availability and prices are separate for each address.

.tr: Registration directly beneath the country code

example.tr has no com part. It is an independent domain and does not automatically redirect to example.com.tr. Owning the matching .com.tr does not automatically give you the .tr address; availability and registration conditions must be checked separately.

.com.tr registration requirements

A general application does not require a company or trademark certificate. The name must be eligible for allocation, and the applicant’s identity and contact details must be accurate.

Naming and registration rules

Name length
2–63 characters

The limit applies to the brand part of brand.com.tr; the .com.tr suffix is not included in this count.

Official source
Permitted characters
a–z, 0–9 and hyphens (-)

A name cannot start or end with a hyphen, and its third and fourth characters cannot both be hyphens.

Official source
Allocation term per transaction
1–5 years

This is the range permitted by TRABİS. Check the terms offered at checkout and the applicable renewal conditions.

A direct .tr address
A separate registration

brand.com.tr and brand.tr are different names. Registering one does not automatically allocate the other.

Before you register

Name eligibility

Registration without supporting certificates does not make every name available. Prohibited names cannot be registered, and restricted names may have additional conditions. For general allocation, priority follows the time an application reaches TRABİS.

Applicant details and account access

Enter the requested details of the person or organisation that will use the domain accurately. Account access for a company domain should remain with the organisation rather than solely in an employee’s personal email account. Allocation without a certificate is not anonymous registration.

Availability and registration confirmation

A search does not reserve a name. Someone else may register it between your search and application. Confirm that registration has completed before using the address in printed materials, advertising or a launch.

Renewal and expiry

The allocation term per transaction is 1–5 years; check the options offered at checkout. Renew before expiry to keep using the name and maintain the contact details used for notices. Do not assume the name can be registered again immediately after expiry; check its current status with your provider.

How to register your domain

Search for your name, complete registration and connect your DNS.

  1. Search for your name

Check whether your chosen address is available. A search does not reserve a domain, so prepare useful alternatives too.

  2. Complete registration

Review the registrant details, term and total price in the customer panel. Keep a current contact address for renewal notifications.

  3. Connect your services

Connect your domain to your website and email using the appropriate DNS records. Follow the setup instructions from your hosting or website builder service.

Technical terms and transaction details

What do the .tr and com parts of the address mean?

In brand.com.tr, .tr is the country-code top level, com is the second level beneath it, and brand is your chosen third-level name. A .com.tr registration therefore follows the rules of the .tr system.

How do prohibited and restricted names differ?

Names on the prohibited list (TAKAL) cannot be registered. The restricted list (TAKIL) covers certain names of public significance, city names and terms that could be used to mislead. Additional checks or conditions may apply to these names; a search showing availability alone does not establish a right to register them.

Frequently asked questions about .com.tr

Certificates, individual applications, prices, extension choice and domain management.

Do I need a company or trademark certificate for .com.tr?

The general .com.tr allocation process does not require a supporting certificate. Prohibited names cannot be registered; restricted names may have additional requirements. You must still supply the registrant information requested during the application.

Can an individual register a .com.tr domain?

The general process without supporting certificates also allows individual applications. The chosen name must be eligible and applicant details must be accurate. Check that your intended name will not conflict with another person's or organisation's rights.

What should I compare when buying a cheap .com.tr domain?

Review registration, renewal and transfer fees separately. A low first-year price may not apply to later renewals. For example, you can estimate three years of use by adding one year of registration to two years of renewal at current prices; this does not lock in future fees. Check the order total for your selected term, taxes and extra services.

What is the difference between .com.tr and .tr?

example.com.tr and example.tr are independent domains. A direct .tr address does not contain the com part. Registering one does not automatically give you rights to the other; availability and transaction requirements are assessed separately.

Should I choose .com or .com.tr?

A site for customers in Türkiye can use .com.tr, while a site serving several markets can use .com. If you register both, choose a primary address. You can redirect the other to the main site or use it separately for Türkiye-specific products, prices and service content.

Does .com.tr guarantee a top ranking in Google Türkiye?

No. The .tr country code can provide a geographic signal for Türkiye, but it does not guarantee rankings. Useful Turkish pages that answer the audience’s questions, crawlable content and a clear site structure are also needed.

How long can I register a .com.tr domain for?

TRABİS permits an allocation of at least one and no more than five years in one transaction. Review the term options available at checkout. Keep track of the expiry and renewal dates if you want to continue using the name.

Is a .com.tr domain available if it has no website?

Not necessarily. The name may be used for email, redirected or waiting for a website to launch. A page failing to load does not tell you whether the domain is registered. Check its availability through a domain search.

Does registering .com.tr automatically publish a website?

No. You need hosting or a site builder for your website and an email service for mailboxes. After registration, connect the domain to your chosen services and check the website and email DNS records separately.

Can I transfer an existing .com.tr domain?

You can use the .com.tr transfer process to change providers. Check the current .tr transaction requirements and your domain’s status with the existing and new providers; do not assume .com transfer rules apply in the same way. Website files, email mailboxes and DNS service need separate attention.

Is .com.tr a country-code top-level domain?

The country-code top-level domain is .tr. .com.tr is a structure beneath .tr; in a registration such as brand.com.tr, your chosen brand name sits at the third level. Having com in the name does not make it part of the standalone .com extension.

How many characters can my .com.tr name contain?

TRABİS rules allow 2–63 characters in the name before .com.tr. Letters a–z, digits 0–9 and hyphens are permitted. The name cannot start or end with a hyphen, and its third and fourth characters cannot both be hyphens. The .com.tr suffix is excluded from this length count.

Are TRABİS and a registrar the same thing?

No. TRABİS is the central .tr domain system operated by BTK. Registrars act as intermediaries for domain applications, allocation, renewal and cancellation. The .tr manager, the registration system and the provider serving you have different roles.

Does buying .com.tr automatically enable DNSSEC?

Buying a domain alone does not enable DNSSEC. DNSSEC uses digital signatures to help verify the origin and integrity of DNS responses. Activation requires compatible signing and chain-of-trust settings to be supported and configured across your DNS service and domain provider.
