.nl is the Netherlands’ country-code extension. It can suit stores serving Dutch customers, local service businesses and exporters to the Netherlands. Registrants may be based outside the country. Register a .nl address at DomainQ for exports to the Netherlands or a local service.
Your .nl application at DomainQ follows SIDN’s domicile arrangements for overseas holders and character rules. Availability does not remove these requirements or trademark rights; review registration and transfer steps with our team.
IANA lists Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland as the .nl manager.

View sourceRegistrants outside the Netherlands automatically use SIDN’s domicile address for formal legal service. It is not a general mail-forwarding service.
View sourceSIDN highlights annual renewal obligations under registrar contracts. Track expiry and cancellation dates in your DomainQ account and ask our team about renewal conditions.
View sourcePair Dutch product descriptions with delivery coverage and a clear returns address. A local extension complements practical evidence that your business serves the country.
State service areas and contact hours clearly. Adding Amsterdam to the name may unnecessarily narrow a business intended to expand nationwide.
If you already have a .com site, decide what the .nl version will add. Prepare local product, support and delivery information instead of duplicating every page at two addresses.
Search your brand’s ASCII spelling at DomainQ, considering Dutch pronunciation and consistency with future country addresses.
For an accented brand, choose a letter substitution customers can type easily. Use the same spelling in print, email and the website address.
Dutch-language content may also serve Belgium. If you sell into Dutch-speaking Belgium, separate language, country and delivery choices.
Define the roles of your .com and .nl addresses. Redirecting a secondary address may be clearer than maintaining two sites with identical content.
Use accurate registrant details and a working contact address in your DomainQ application. These details matter for .nl transactions; manage DNS settings and renewal preferences in your panel.
Use a–z, 0–9 and hyphens; the name cannot start or end with a hyphen.
View sourceSIDN’s permitted character list does not include accented letters. Choose a suitable ASCII spelling for Dutch or Turkish special characters.

View sourceTransfer, restoration and change-of-holder rights belong to the registrant in SIDN’s records; avoid accidentally registering your agency as the holder.
View sourceSIDN’s overseas-holder address is for formal legal documents. You still need to supply your actual postal and email details.
Obtain the transfer token, back up the DNS zone and decide where email will remain. A domain transfer does not automatically migrate hosting files.
Renew before cancellation to avoid interruption. Restoration fees and provider processing times can differ from routine renewal.
From choosing your name to managing DNS, keep your domain in one customer panel.
Check your address for availability and compare alternative extension prices. Searching alone does not reserve the name.

No. The domicile arrangement concerns formal legal service. It does not imply a Dutch office or that SIDN handles your business mail.
SIDN applies an additional random delay of zero to one hour after quarantine. The displayed end time is not a registration guarantee.
From choosing .nl to registration and renewal: answers about your DomainQ service and the extension’s requirements.
Registrants with an address outside the Netherlands are accepted. SIDN’s automatic domicile arrangement applies; provide accurate contact details and any documents requested by your provider.
SIDN permits a–z, digits and hyphens. Choose an understandable ASCII spelling instead of letters such as ü or ş; names must contain two to 63 characters.
Obtain the transfer token from your current registrar; SIDN requires it to be provided within five days of a request. Before moving to DomainQ, check the token and accurate registrant details. The transfer is started with this token; ask our team about the steps.
The 40-day quarantine following cancellation gives the holder an opportunity to restore it. Ask for restoration rather than a new registration, and check fees and conditions first.
.nl signals the Netherlands, while .be signals Belgium. A language can serve both countries; base delivery, support and local-content decisions on the market as well as the language.
The table above lists DomainQ’s standard .nl registration, renewal and transfer charges separately. Paying for a request does not remove the eligibility requirements. Check the final order total, selected period, taxes and any additional services before completing registration.
Separate the registration price from renewal and possible quarantine-restoration charges. Do not confuse SIDN’s domicile arrangement for overseas registrants with a separately purchased commercial office service.
.nl can provide a strong country signal for the Netherlands, but does not guarantee rankings. Relevant local content, crawlable pages and correct links between language versions still matter. Dutch language alone is not the same as targeting Belgium.
Your .nl registration at DomainQ includes free Premium Anycast DNS and a 15-day free AI SiteQ website-builder trial. Hosting and mailboxes are separate services; connect your .nl to both using DNS records. When changing provider, plan DNS, website files and mailbox migration separately.
No. Availability in SIDN’s system is not permission to use a trademark. Check similar business names and brands before entering the Dutch market, and consult SIDN’s dispute procedures if a conflict arises.
