Because it is on the HSTS preload list, a website serving only HTTP will not work with this address in normal browser use. Follow your host’s custom-domain and HTTPS instructions. Free or paid certificates may be available; correct domain coverage and reliable renewal matter.

Does buying .dev include an SSL certificate?

No. It is a real, publicly registered extension. Using someone else’s registered name as a local test address can create confusion.

Can I redirect .dev to another website?
Yes, but the .dev address performing the redirect must be reachable over HTTPS. An HTTP-only redirect is insufficient because of HSTS.
